The Music Therapy Program through BC Cancer Foundation is uniquely accessible to patients and families from across BC and the Yukon
April 11, 2025

Music Heals Charitable Foundation has provided funding for the music therapy program at BC Cancer Foundation since 2020. As part of the program, BC Cancer offers regular virtual music therapy sessions available to anyone who is dealing with cancer, including families and caregivers, regardless of demographic or geographic location.
In 2024, the online Relaxation Music Therapy Group provided 1985 people from all across the province access to the music therapy, allowing people to participate while traveling, working, or receiving treatment, including in palliative care. The Relaxation Music Therapy Group is designed to provide comfort, connection, and healing through music. The flexibility of the program ensures that people can maintain vital connections to support, regardless of their circumstances.
In the following video, we share the story of Nicole, a participant in the online relaxation music therapy sessions led by Music Therapist Carolyn Neapole. Nicole, who is based in Victoria, meets Carolyn in person for the first time, and together they share a special 1-1 music therapy session with us.
The music therapy program through BC Cancer Foundation creates a sense of community, helping patients feel seen and valued during challenging times. By focusing on holistic well-being, BC Cancer’s music therapy program reconnects individuals with their strengths and resilience. It provides comfort and relief during periods of stress or pain, elevating the patient experience and enhancing the emotional support landscape, making it an indispensable resource for those navigating life with cancer.
In addition to virtual offerings, BC Cancer also provides in-person sessions, enhancing accessibility and fostering personal connections. This combination allows them to reach a broader audience and ensures that patients can choose the format that best suits their needs. The Relaxation Recording Library, which is an ever-expanding collection of music-based relaxations available to patients, family members, and caregivers, can also be accessed anytime and anywhere in support of their well-being and mental health.
April is Cancer Awareness Month, if you or someone you know could benefit from music therapy through BC Cancer Foundation, contact BC Cancer for more information.
