“Music is the key that opens the doors in my brain.” - Don, Columbia View Lodge Resident.⁠

Don, a 69-year-old long-term resident of Columbia View Lodge, has been calling the care facility home for the past two years. While being confined to a wheelchair due to health challenges, Don finds joy and peace in music. He deeply understands the importance of music therapy, seeing it not only as a way to pass the time but also recognizing its profound benefits. “Music calms me down, makes me happy, and makes me think.” ⁠

During Music Therapy sessions, he listens closely to the other participants in the group, contributes to discussions, and always suggests songs to sing. It helps him express himself and feel connected to others. With the support of the facility’s Music Therapist, Karen Yamazaki, he’s become more confident and creative.⁠

We are happy to continue to be able to provide funding for music therapy to the residents of Columbia View Lodge and other senior long-term care centers. If you would like to learn more about our funded facilities, make sure to check out our website through the link in our bio.⁠
