KGMS Students expressing what music means to them

Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School (KGMS) located in North Vancouver partners with The Society for the Education of Children with Specific Learning Disabilities and together their mission is to empower diverse thinkers through the expert delivery of educational programs that build confidence and capability, helping students realize their dreams.

The Huscroft Family Charitable Trust is helping to make those dreams a reality by providing a dedicated donation to Music Heals Charitable Foundation for the music therapy program at Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School in 2024.

KGMS shared that Music therapy can uniquely reach their students and give them an opportunity for expression and intrapersonal growth. Music therapy supports students in developing self-efficacy and confidence as well as their musical skills. Classes are small but 1:1 music therapy fills a need for these students that cannot be met through classroom musical experiences. Music therapy also helps students learn to regulate their emotions and provides them with important skills to excel academically and socially.

With the support of funding provided to Music Heals from the Huscroft Family Charitable Trust, KGMS can significantly expand its music therapy program in 2024 increasing the total hours of music therapy offered per week, reaching more students, and offering additional music therapy programs.

Thank you to the Huscroft, Dempster, and Compo Families, who together comprise the Huscroft Family Charitable Trust, for giving the gift of music to the Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School students.
